Our NOME Alaska mining season consists of:

  1. Spring – Equipment replace / rebuild / upgrades
  2. Spring – Equipment launch
  3. Spring – Launch JAG (via Air Bags) / ROV / Umbilical
  4. Mining – 2 shifts per day each shift is 12 hours / day
  5. Mining – repair any broken equipment
  6. Fall – Pull JAG (via Air Bags) / ROV 
  7. Fall – Assess systems and consider changes needed for the next season

The Spring work typically begins mid April and should conclude about the first week of June.  Mining runs from early June to the first week of October.  We can work about 55 days per mining season.  If the weather forces us into port, we generally have maintenance work to do until the weather permits mining again. Fall work typically requires a week of winterizing, repair, and system analysis.

Ship Captain

Job Description:  Ship Captain, Maintenance & Welding Crew Palmerosa Works, LLC which is the Operations company for Palmerosa Mining has an opening for a “Ship captain, Maintenance & Welding Crew Member & Mining Crew Member”.  Six (6) months on, Six (6) months off in Nome AK. Earnings Guarantee (Amount based on experience)  - Earn a years compensation in 6 months! The following is a general description of the duties of the position. Always be punctual and ready to depart Port for your appointed shift.

  1. Always adhere to “Safety First” in any job function. If an unsafe condition occurs, be sure other Crew Members are aware of your observation and work together to find a safe remedy to resolve the problem.
  2. Always be ready to assist with any Emergency situation even if it is not on your assigned shift.
  3. Diligently observe boat components during operation. Make sure you understand normal operating conditions for these components and if you note anything abnormal, take appropriate action.
  4. Perform production sampling and reporting of your findings during mining operations.
  5. Perform and record sea and plume observations for DEC reporting requirements.
  6. Anchor Hoist management.
  7. Grease System Management.
  8. Maintenance Work as needed. (Replacing or fixing broken components. Welding may be required.  Hose repair or replacement. )
  9. Diligently observe water and boat conditions noting sea height and oil or debris in the water. Immediately report abnormal conditions to the Operations Manager.
  10. Extensive Maintenance is always planned for pre-launch. This includes equipment modifications, replacing worn or broken parts, and normal maintenance. This will also involve fabrication, Welding, and Installation.
  11. Gold cleaning after cleanouts. When time permits, you will assist in cleaning gold and mats from the sluice area as well as classification, panning, and drying of the gold.
  12. Using Sonar, camera images, and Telemetry information, operate the subsurface ROV mining equipment. Detail training will be required.
  13. Manage Ship movement, Fuel Status, Weather predictions, and Anchoring to assure the safety of all crew and equipment.
